Anne Raina, co-author of a new book, Clara's Rib, will be a guest on the John Counsell show, on CFRA Radio 580 on Tuesday, December 7, at 10:00 p.m. Clara's Rib is the true story of a young girl coming of age in a tuberculosis hospital, the 'San', in Ottawa, (now the site of the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre), in the 1940s and '50s. Coincidentally, this year marks the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Royal Ottawa Sanatorium for the treatment of tuberculosis. Clara entered the San as a 12 year old and was discharged for the final time when she was 26.
Even though Clara and Anne's family was ravaged by tuberculosis, faith, humour and a positive attitude prevailed. Not only will you find this book inspirational, but you will discover why, when Clara left the San for the last time, one of her own ribs was packed in her suitcase! Please tune in on Tuesday.
